This course will provide you an overview of quality control and quality assurance in the
environmental laboratory. The overview introduces you to nationally recognized standards, and
provides a general discussion on the cost of quality. The overview puts into perspective the
importance of various components of a quality system, providing an analogy to links in a chain.
Definitions are provided for quality control and quality assurance, and differences are highlighted
through the use of examples.
This course introduces you to the quality system as established by The NELAC Institute, or
referred to as TNI. The course goes into the Quality Assurance Manual for the laboratory and
discusses its components, including the quality policy statement.
